This event is geared toward the person who has been living with migraine and headache disease for years, those who are recently diagnosed, as well as people who are wondering if they might have migraine. Our panelists for the event include a headache specialist, pain psychologist, and patient advocates.
This event will be a combination of presentations and interactive sessions giving you a chance to practice & experience your learnings. You’ll gain a better understanding of the diagnosis process, as well as the most effective migraine management plans available. Topics include:
- Tips & tools for changing your response to pain
- Preparing for a successful appointment with your health care provider
- Learning more about what migraine is
- Update on newest treatment options
- Learning about Mindfulness (with a chance to practice together)
- Creating your elevator pitch (with time to develop your personal pitch)
This is an interactive session, questions encouraged by those attending.
A $10 registration fee is required for in person attendees to reserve a spot and will be reimbursed upon event day check in. We do this to avoid no-shows. If you require an exception please email info@milesformigraine.org

Meet the speakers:
Fallon Schloemer, DO
Dr. Schloemer is an Associate Professor of Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She joined MCW in 2015 as faculty. She is presently the Director of the Headache Medicine Division and Associate Program Director of the Adult Neurology Residency Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is also the Medical Director of the Neurosciences Clinic at Froedtert Hospital.
Dr. Schloemer received her D.O. from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. She completed her Neurology Residency and her Headache Medicine Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the American Headache Society (AHS). Dr. Schloemer is an active participant in education activities and events for patients, medical students, residents, and fellows.
Jennifer Collins, MD
Dr. Collins is a Headache Medicine Fellow and General Neurology Physician in the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She received her M.D. from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin with an emphasis in rural medicine. She completed her Neurology Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she also served as the Chief Resident of the Adult Neurology Program. Dr. Collins is the current Headache Medicine Fellow at the Medical College of Wisconsin and will be graduating in June 2024.
Kirti Thummala, PhD
Dr. Thummala is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and a Pain Psychologist in the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Health Psychology at Arizona State University, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Thummala is passionate about helping people understand how psychological factors, like thoughts, emotions and behaviors, impact pain. Her clinical work focuses on teaching individuals behavioral techniques to improve migraines and other chronic pain conditions.
Sarah Arndt, CHC, Patient Advocate
Sarah has lived with migraine since infancy but wasn't diagnosed until her mid-30s when it became so debilitating she lost her job and spent 2.5 years in bed. Sarah is living proof that a holistic approach can completely transform your health and now professionally serves as a Certified Health Coach helping others manage migraine using a science and ancestral-based approach. Sarah is passionate about migraine advocacy and hopes to empower others to take their health into their own hands and become their own best advocate.
Shirley Kessel, Miles for Migraine Executive Director
Shirley is the mom of three daughters, two of whom live with migraine. When her youngest daughter Sydney became diagnosed at an early age, they both decided that it was time to take action to bring awareness and raise money for migraine research. They contacted Eileen Jones, who founded the Miles for Migraine race in San Francisco, and brought the race to the Philadelphia community in 2013. She became the Executive Director in 2017 when it became apparent that Miles for Migraine should take the race series around the USA.
Shirley has worked in healthcare for the past 26 years and has served on various non-profit boards since 1991. She won’t retire until a cure is found for this disabling disease.
